Xbox China

Xbox China

Video game consoles had been banned in China for 14 years. I helped the International Xbox Team to enter the Chinese market.

I designed the collateral (including the first Chinese Xbox App) used by Microsoft’s business team to convey the vision of Xbox in China to the Chinese government and the leadership of Chinese media companies.


System Walkthrough

I designed a localized Chinese console experience; from unboxing to registration and streaming media content.

Login - Added levels of registration & login emphasized the controlled nature of the experience.

Fitness - We created an experience that emphasized the fitness potential of Kinect sensors.

Education - We explored education scenarios built around video communication and 2nd screen experiences.


Concept Video

Then we created a video depicting our ideal Family Console Experience to share with the Chinese government.

The concept video demonstrated a multigenerational Chinese family's shared console experience. I created all the onscreen UI assets the video's story was built around.


BesTV App

I designed the first Chinese Xbox One app for Microsoft's partner company BesTV. The BesTV app is a media app with enhanced features. I designed the UX and UI.

Shopping - The app includes a shopping experience tied-in to products featured on select TV & movie content.

Media Content - The BesTV app's primary function is to provide streaming access to curated media content.

Enhanced Viewing - One of the challenges was devising a way to provide user access to metadata in a non-disruptive manner.
